Feedback Response
This is the first bouldering competition I have attended and I enjoyed myself tremendously. Keep up the good work. You guys can always count on my support for any related events. Thanks.
I had a blast! I got stronger and younger in this comp... I wish you could do away with age categories - or at least - only have youth and adult... cause I don't want to be segregated from the main bulk of the competition... just cause I am a year older. That puts me alone usually and that's no fun! Thanks and keep it real - too much competition does no one any good. I think this comp was perfect as is. Its tough deciding on the categories.  Categorizing by Age with an Open division is straight-forward and then there is no need for us to decide what arbitrary point value would bump you up to the next category.  You can imagine the complaints that arise when people get bumped up because they climbed too strong (or at least we thought they did).  Youth and Adult is good too, but there are problems there as well.  Maybe add a Senior category, but we'd have to be careful on where we drew that line.

We try to minimize the emphasis on points, categories, and the general competitiveness because there are always problems (including mistakes on our end).

I enjoy competitions where the atmosphere is more about getting together and climbing with each other and having a good time, rather than being competitive about it. But, I also like winning nice prizes for winning comps. I think that the two can go hand in hand though.  From the comps I've been to, I haven't really noticed a change in the tone of the competition, regardless of whether the prizes at the end are a new pair of shoes, or another Mammut hat. Although I'm sure other people have had different experiences, I've never really noticed a super-competitive nature to comps that I've entered. Anyone with ideas how to keep the camaraderie yet give prizes based on performance?
I am just so extremely pleased that you have taken the time to sponsor a bouldering comp. The next step is to have a comp sponsored by ABS so that our local comps can count towards the ABS requirements for local, regional and national comps We are hosting ABS Regionals in late January, but we have no plans to hold any ABS Citizen Comps.  Perhaps we can certify the Dec. 3rd Comp, but you'll need to participate in 2 ABS Citizens' to be able to climb in Regionals.  See rockcomps.com for the schedule.  There are lots ABS Citizen Comps in Colorado.
The Dead Point competition was a blast. You guys did a great job with all of the problems and all of the prizes. This is a big job to put on an event like this and you guys pulled it off great. We know that you can't please everyone, but if you can please my family, then that is a feat in itself.
We love and appreciate all of you. You always treat us like we are number one.   You guys ROCK.
Thanks.
There were way to many people on the wall at the same time. Too many people were trying to squeeze in and climb without any structure on who was next. Some people got to climb a lot more than others just because they weren't considerate. It's unfortunate that some people were not following good gym etiquette.  Next time we'll have have more staff out there to help keep people off the pads and to give each other room while others are climbing.  We may limit spectators as well when we have that many competitors.
Don't like the age group divisions, especially for the women, it didn't break anyone up.   EVERYONE was in the same category.   Next time you could possibly break up the 18-29 category, by maybe doing 18-25 and 26+, this might be more realistic, especially when there were only 2 people over 30. I know the age groups gets rid of people sandbagging but I think it also prevents people of lower ability levels (especially those in the 18-29 age group from coming) It was great fun though and I will probably attend again, (weather permitting)
Make the entry fee lower and don't give me an ugly T-shirt that I will never wear! We're sorry you didn't like the t-shirt.  We did.  Next time, don't take one.
